| properly inflated cause you want your footprint to be as skinny as possible to carve into the snow rather then ride ontop of it.. riding on top will cause dangerous situations when going to turn or stop.. ask me how i know.. lol | |

| well, if you think of how a tire wears when underinflated then it will answer........ if a tire is underinflated, you only have the outside of the tire contacting the ground..... a properly inflated tire gives you the maximum tread surface on the ground that will give you the most traction you can get....... Without chains that is. | |

| But yeah, John boggs, a dual wheel really sucks..... but the super singles really got to sliding in the snow.... WAY too much tread surface, unless it is the high traction ones you can get......... Ask me how a 120 foot drop looks from the inside of a international fuel truck sliding down hill towards it is........ | |

| both wrong.. and what tire doesn't spin on wet leaves? lol the super swamper iroks are proven to be 1 of the best tires in the snow.. their tread pattern is supposedly superior to snow tires, boggers and tsl's because they keep the snow from packing in | |

| I got stuck today with michelin LTX m/s....... they work great until in heavy deep powdery snow.......... I would rather have the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs..... they are new to the market, but I have had no problems with them in the 2 feet+ of powder snow we have laying here.... Its the first tire I found that I havent had to chain up to get to the top of the mine..... It all depends on conditions.... what is the base under the snow, what kind of snow, how much snow........ And the answer to that question is more of a opinion than proven thing..... | |

| yeah we all are from around the US so what works good in michigan might now work that good in jersey. we got alot of wet packy snow not the fluffy powder that michigan gets.. granted it may snow half a dozen times a year here so when im choosing a tire winter isnt on my mind.. however my dakota m/ts arent bad in the snow at all for around here.. last year i pulled quite a few people out of the ditch even when i was on straight ice.. i just had to have them pumped up to 45 psi.. lol. | |

Says who? Like batty said what is considered the 'best' is largely opinion. | |

| opinion on this matter is not 100%, but i read it somewhere before.. i think it was a 4x4 mag or something that i was reading while i was on the porcelin(sp?) goddess.. OK OK, i was just looking at pictures, i can't read | |

| Well we already knew that! lol However in the interest of the conversation the worst tires I've ever seen in the snow besides Zrated street tires are the Pro Comp Xterrains the have an extremely large lug pattern and the voids are not big at all so the lugs just slide and the voids pack up just like thornbirds in the mud! They packs up become slicks and next thing you know you doing circles on the road and stuck on the trail! | |

| Im afraid, that if it did come from a 4x4 mag, it still is a matter that can be debated.... It all comes down to what size of vehicle, how much power you have under the hood, the size, and then what kind of snow, wet and heavy, light and powdery, and also what the footing underneith is.......... 4x4 mags do their tests, and release their findings, but as a general rule(tire companies included) they test their tires in the conditions that are closest to them, and then rate them from a few tests in one or two different conditions........ they cannot, or do not have time or means to test a vehicle in every winter condition that is available..... unfortunatly......... Goodyear sold me a tire called a G971.... its in the commercial tire division, its supposed to be an awesome winter tire, as well as very rock resistant.......I run them on all the pit vehicles.... I get maybe 4 months a tire out of them...... I switched and went to a cheap Dunlop Mt, and it has lasted 6 months already, and still has 8/32 tread on the test vehicle....... the best tire for any application, varies on what conditions, and who the driver is.... | |
