| Well the power steering pump in my grandma's 07 or 06 Trailblazer is whining. What is causing it to do this? Also the fluid smells a little burned or metallic like, is this normal? | |

| Most common causes of power steering pump failures is overheating. Is the pump low on fluid? | |

| Sounds like the bearings in the pump are about to go. | |

| I'd try changing the fluid, see where it gets you. My Lincoln did the same when I bought it. Sounded AWFUL. Like someone slowly opening a haunted house door on a amplified mike.
Flushed it out, used new Synthetic RP power steering fluid, works great. I can steer with one finger now. I need to do my new truck. | |

| Thanks to Lucas, the OP in my truck is quite good now. 45 at startup, 35 or so @2K RPMS when warm, and around 25 or so when idling. Much better. | |

| My 97's PS pump used to whine like a supercharger, 1 bottle of Lucas, good as new. | |

| Remember to flush the cooler as well. A lot of fluid is in there. | |
