| well i put the down payment on my new toy and got a little more info on it.. i hate the color cause its schoolbus yellow but other then that its everything i want and need.. its a 99 3500 with a great looking utility bed and its a super crewcab i guess you would call it.. its got fullsize doors on each side that open just like a normal door. the motor is a 6.5 turbo desiel with 80k miles.. it was a township supervisor truck so it didnt really do much hauling, or moving for that matter.. interior is in great shape, none of the seats even look used.. its got a new inector pump, glowplugs and injectors.. i timed the pump today and it fired right up.. drove down the road straight, shifted through the gears fine cause its got a new tranny in it, the 4wd works great, no noise from that end so im rather pleased with it.. the title should be here in about a week so once i do that ill be rockin a new truck.. i said i wouldnt buy anything else older then 2000 for my daily but after the tranny issues in the jimmy and the deal that i just got i take that statement back.. this is what the cab and all look like minus the bed.. this is the bed that i have.. | |

| Nice. I'd consider a diesel, but I would have no idea how to maintain one. All I've ever owned is gasoline engines. Plus I've heard the injectors are mucho dineros! | |

Injector price depends on what you have. I can replace the IP and injectors on mine with quite a bit left over for other goodies, just for the price of injectors in a new dirtymax.

Injector price is directly related to the injection system. Your want-to-be powerjoke, uses a unit injection system so its going to cost less to replace injectors then on a high pressure common rail. On the other hand, Joe's Rotary DS4 pump is going to cost even less to replace injectors. Plus neither Joes' nor mine have to worry about a failing HPOP. - 1993GMCSierra wrote:

There really isnt much difference. More frequent fuel filter changes & different oil motor, thats really it.

| A word of caution, your truck should have bumper that looks like this; Those two holes in the bumper next to the license plate are very imprtant for cooling. Dont block them up or get rid of them. | |

| Most important thing, read the owners manual. Diesels need specific oil and more frequent fuel filter changes. You can go much longer between oil changes, but not fuel filter changes. 90% of the trouble new owners run into is dirty fuel or clogged filters. For parts, check out ; www.heathdiesel.comThey are the largest 6.5L & 6.2L parts place. Before you do anything, get a remote PMD kit, you will save yourself a lot of headaches down the road. | |

| PMD is Pump Mounted Driver. Its the computer that controls the engine. On the 6.5L you have a DS4 injection pump and the PMD is directly on top of the pump, where it is vulnerable to heat damage. When it gets hot, the truck will run like crap, if it runs at all. Here is the kit for your truck; http://www.heathdiesel.com/T/Chevy-GM/Chevy-9601/PMD-Isolators/ | |

| yeah i was looking at the same one and happened to see the more info tab and clicked it.. i do have a consern though... the truck is still smoking really bad after i had someone come and time the inector pump.. it runs fine now... it still smells like its pumping to much diesel into the motor or something.. im gonna have the guy come back.. he said it would go away but i let it run for 10-15 mins at idle and it didnt clear up.. | |

| Dont get too crazy with the bigger turbo. IDK if it applies to your motor, but on some if ya run too much boost you'll lift the heads and blow the gaskets................ | |

| You have on of two problems, the pumped is off timing, or your loosing boost pressure. Since the pump is new, I'm leaning towards the timing being off.
What color is the smoke?
