PostSubject: scanner wiring...   scanner wiring... EmptyMay 24th 2010, 8:40 pm

Ok, i have this scanner out of my last truck,
http://www.walcottcb.com/uniden-bc355c-800mhz-base-mobile-scanner-p-1990.html?cPath=85_24_453

and it fits perfectly in my 06's overhead console, almost like it was made for it. i was wonderin if you guys thought it would be a good idea to tie into the wiring for the map lights. there are three wires up there, black (should be ground) red (should be constant) and grey (should be dome switch). i don think runnin the antenna wire over the headliner, im just wonderin about powering it up. oh, and how do you get the blame console down? i took the only screw out, but it just hangs. i dont wanna rip it down lol. thanks guys

As long as the amperage the scanner needs doesnt exceed the rating of the fuse you should have no problem. Me personally, I'd run it off the cigarette lighter and run the wire up the a-pillar.

like rob said i would wire it up to the cig lighter. if you blow your dome light it will probley take out the cluster with it.. not good.. lol. as far at the overhead thing goes it should pull down a little and then slide forward.. its just held in with some body clips if you took the screw out from the center of the light..

In case anyone is wondering, I tried the map lights. It worked, sorta. The scanner wouldn't turn on until I turned the map light on and off. Then it would work fine till I turned the truck off. Then I'd have to repeat after I cranked it again. I ended up runnin it down the A pillar to the fuse box. Hope this helps someone

you fudged the wiring for the hot wire.. you have it wired to the switched hot for the interior lights and not the ignition on accessory hot wire..

Your prolly right.... I like it wired to the fuse box better anyway. No worries of loose connections causing issues in the future.
