My wife's ride. 09 Scion xB. It's a surprising little beast. TONS of room inside and it has plenty of power (Toyota Camry drivetrain) and handles like a slot car since I swapped some 17 inch wheels and sticky rubber onto it.

It is a bit ODD... but so are we.

-2pts in my book! HAHAHAH... I have never gotten on board with the whole "square" revolution between the Scion, element, new Kia thing.... But I gotta say, that does look sharp. I guess I have not seen the newest ones yet. But if it were me, I prefer the red beast parked beside it...LOL

Definately looks odd next to your GMC. But, as long as the wife likes it, thats all that matters.

Yeah. I love my truck but I have to admit that the xB is a fun little beast. MUCH more fun than I ever imagined it would be

and that is what i am afraid of if I ever drive one! HAHAHAHA...

I used to sell the elements when they first came out, I HATED it, but I had to surpress that for the customers. And after a while and dozens of test drives, it began to grow on me. Which is when I decided to change dealerships and sell pre-owned instead...HAHAHA

We've had a zillion different cars (I'm a car buyer by trade) so I've become harder to impress over the years. The little Scion does though. Thing corners like a go-kart.

Actually it has more leg room and head room than my full sized truck. The rear seat is HUGE. You can put the front seats all the way back and 6 footers have plenty of knee room in back. You wouldn't believe it until you sit in one. Nobody does.

I can't get into the oddball different sides styled differently deal on the cube. I know it's a hit in Japan but they like weird stuff there.

I never thought I would buy a Scion. Not for one minute. Last year we were looking for a new car for Emily. We drove tons of cars and SUVs. American and foreign... Just by accident one day we drove through a toyota lot in Round Rock Texas and they had the Silver xB sitting there fresh off of the transport truck. All of them were presold but the woman that was the "buyer" apparently had no credit. We test drove it and bought it on the spot. We were that impressed with it. A year later we don't regret it for one minute.

You know, I would have no problem with Japanese cars and trucks if Japan would just sign the NAFTA agreement. Then it would be a fair playing field.

I wouldn't have any problem with American cars if they would step up and build them as good as the Japanese. We are improving for sure... but a gap still exists.

Especially in the resale department.

I buy cars for a living (thousands annually) and the resale of Japanese vehicles is phenomenal compared to American cars.

Part of the resale aspect is where the car is manufactured. Most Japanese cars are made in Japan and most American cars are made in America, so when a replacement is needed, the Japanese car should be more expensive (resale value) because of the distance. But on the same side of the coin is reputation. Japanese cars still have a reputation of being more reliable, so demand goes up. All of these increase resale.

Part of the problem with American car resale value has nothing to do with reliability. Many are quite good cars but the manufacturers whore themselves out to the rental car companies and about 18 months later the same cars are on the used car market with 35000 miles on them. The result is plummeting values due to the glut of same model cars for sale. Simple supply and demand kills the resale value. I see it at auction weekly.

I generally buy foreign made cars because I can recover a much larger percentage of my purchase price when I trade in 18 - 24 months. I really don't think one is all that superior to the other in any other sense. Money is money.

i have to disagree with the reliability thing.. it seems like not too long after your warranty is up or you finish making you payments, you start having problems.. some minimal, some major. i think the reason american cars are breaking down 'sooner' would be the fact that a good 75% of them are being pushed harder than any imported vehicles are

Don't get me wrong here. I'm certainly not anti American car. If I were buying a 2 year old car, I'd be right there in line for one. Reliability has a lot to do with how you maintain a car... any car.
