| I vote my IDI cus its dead simple, and can run on a rediculously WIDE array of fuels. 4x4 with a standard shift tranny, and ya have an almost bulletproof vehicle......
what you guys think? | |

| Dieselpower mag did a similar article about this recently. I would have to agree with them for the most part.
1991 Suburban, 12 Valve Cummins, NV4500, 4X4. All the benefits you names above, plus a whole lot of extra space.

Nothing with an intact electrical circuit (including a diesel) would run John. Only advantage we have is if ours was already running, it wouldnt shut off, theirs would.

| My Silverado? Heck yeah, i'd be screwed. But my old Suburban would have been just fine. And you're right about the lights and stuff. None of that would work, but it (and Johns truck) would still run. We just wouldnt be able to use the radio, headlights, etc... | |

| If you want to simulate it. Find an IDI and hook a jumper wire up the to the fuel shutoff solenoid. Now start the engine. Once its running, turn the key off. The engine will stay running, but everything electrical will quit working. A truck with a T18/T19, or C6 will still be able to be driven normal. An E4OD truck will still have reverse, 4th gear (when in Drive) and manual 2nd.
Vacuum pump is belt driven on my truck, and with a manual fuel shutoff, no batteries are necessary........
