EGR block off Empty
PostSubject: EGR block off   EGR block off EmptyFebruary 6th 2010, 5:49 pm

I blocked off my EGR valve today. affraid...... I started my truck up, and its idles alot smoother than when I started.... so anyway, heres how I did it..........( disclaimer... Uintah County, Utah, doesnt require emmision testing, so the emmision system only needs to be in the visually for state safety inspection) my truck is a 1995 GMC k1500 5.0 w/NV3500 trans

I pulled it off, pulled the gasket off, cut a beer can around the middle so I could use it as a new gasket/block..... I traced the outside edge, as well as the neccisary holes to mount it back on... I made 2 of these thin aluminum (beer can) gaskets, used some high temp gasket maker, put one on the intake manifold side, the OEM gasket on top, then the 2nd thin one on top, a but of gasket maker, the old egr valve, and tightened it back down...... I also stuck a bb in the end of the vacuum line, and plugged it off...... It worked great, and it didnt cause any bad effects.... I would have had pictures, but my camera got molested by my 15 month old baby...... you can figure out what happened........

EGR block off Empty
PostSubject: Re: EGR block off   EGR block off EmptyFebruary 8th 2010, 5:46 pm

well, if i take it to 75 mph, itll kick on.... as long as i dont let the rpm's get above 2200 rpm, it runs okay.... but, the idle after warm up still misses pretty bad. so, im going to clean the EGR back up, and put it back, without it blocked.... and now im thinking time to replace the tps, or iac...... any way to check either of these?
