| Mmkay. Original thread can be seen here: http://www.mytrucksource.com/pride-and-joy-f19/on-a-cold-rainy-day-in-late-november-t556.htmAt this point it will run, but only for a short while. Ok. So, here is where I am currently. I replaced the Fuel Filter today. My god, that had to be the easiest thing I've ever done to an engine (other than checking oil.) Disconnect the fuel line, use a 1" wrench to loosen up the filter assembly, remove, and reverse procedure. All done in 5 minutes. The original filter guts were GONE. As in...I could see through the filter. Also, I'm assuming the fuel pump is functioning, as the moment I removed the gas line, old (horrible smelling) gas came running out. I'm going to have to drain the tank, there's no other option. I took a cup of gas, threw it on some paper, and took my lighter to it. Paper wouldn't even light. Enough said. Oil light is still on, I plan on changing the oil either this week or next week, I'll put some Pennzoil in it first, once thats dirty, I'll add Mobile 1 to clean it out. The last owner used Mobile 1 filters, so that's a WIN in my book. Tells me wonders. Oh, and this came in the mail today: Yes, this is an original Dealership brochure, not a reprint. It's in amazing shape, no wear at all. btw, Merlin, the filter in the old fuel filter didn't have any rust in it | |

| if the tank was full and has been full for the whole time it was stored it probley wont have much rust in it.. the fuller neck is where the rust is gonna be.. drain the tank, pull the filler neck out and take a wire brush to it, replace the rubber hose that connects the filler neck to the tank and you should be fine.. the problem may lie in getting to the filler neck.. you may have to drop the tank.. some cars however you could access them from the trunk.. | |

I'm hoping. They are getting harder to find Jared, the gas mileage is the main factor.

| 10 mpg FTW!!! i would drain the tank of every last drop of gas.. i suggest clearing the fuel lines of all the old gas as well.. when you put new gas in it, you should put 93 octane in there, it will help clear the carb up a little and break up some of the carbon deposits | |

| Yep I already said it before in the last thread and I stand by what I said before the varnish that's now in your tank is the sorce of the engine troubles. I also agree with chris on the 93 octane it's got must better cleaning properties then 87... Not to mention the fuel being completely rotted out there may be some filter peaces in the carb as well perhaps a carb rebuild is in order.
All in all though I'm glad to see the car is coming back to life! Keep up the good work Will!

| Just an update, for those of you who don't know, I dislike the cold very much. In fact, I dislike it so much, once it gets below 25, I won't go outside unless I absolutely need to, and, winter is upon us here. So, any major work being done will be on hold until I get a warmer day or two. Now, it's just little piddly stuff, draining the tank, interior work, etc. Once it warms up past 40, I'll start doing more major stuff to it. 25-40* may be darn warm to some of you, but not me. I don't live in Michigan or Minnesota, and don't plan on it, for that very reason. I spent most of today running errands, but decided to reapply come chrome polish on it. I did it once before, and it did a little, but it wasn't anything to talk about. This time, I used a high powered 120V drill Three bottles of Chrome Polish later... Wow. I was blown away. The front end is blinding. I went to take a pic of it, but because it's kind of dark, the flash reflected off the chrome and partially blinded me. I'll try to take a few pics tomorrow in the light. I've been making some phone calls on repainting it (just for future reference) and I've gotten from $2,500 (pass) to ~ $10,000. I've lost the number to a shop that specializes in repainting collector and custom show cars, but I know they will treat it best, as far as masking, glass, etc are concerned. I'm going to go with 3 coats of basepaint, in the original Light Jade Metallic, followed by six-seven coats of clearcoat. When I'm done with it, the paint is going to blind you. Anyway, the chrome looks amazing, now to work on the aluminum... | |

| Well, actually, some is stainless, and some is aluminum It's a triple-trim car I've knocked out the stainless as well, but the hubcaps and the trim on the very bottom of the car are aluminum. I have a bottle of Stainless Steel polish here for some reason....not sure why. I never bought it, and none of our appliances are stainless steel..... hmm.. | |

| i agree on the cold weather, i won't go out unless it's above 40 either.. it makes my arthritis act up.. and 2500 is a little steep for paint, my dad charges that for doing custom paint work | |

Is the end result capable of winning an auto show against over 500 cars in it's same category? Maaco wanted $2,500 for just a base/clear job, I'm looking at 3 coats of base, 7 coats of clear. So you're painting, wet sanding, buffing, etc the car ten times over. That's easily 6K right there. Not knocking what your dad does, and I'd be interested in seeing the work, I just want a breathtaking paint job, and am prepared for the fact it's not gonna be cheap.
