We have aptly named it "Rusty."

I know I have a swap project going, that may never end. I got a call from my Dad Friday and he wanted to go look at a potential project. When I get those calls from my Dad I know I'm about to buy something.
Here is my "fresh from a four year hitch in a barn" 1979 FJ40. It has 79K or 179K on it and I'm not guessing. It was owned by the seller for eight years or some story. It spent the last four years in a barn as a home for Wasps and Mice.

So four years in the barn.....
The battery needed charged but it still worked. The fuel pump was out and there was no original replacement mechanical pump available. So a new E30812S later and it ran!

I tried to get video but every time we got it running a new leak in one of the fuel returns would spray fuel all over the place.

We are up in the air on what to do with it. I vote we go topless and have a woods runner. I think Dad actually wants to slick it up and drive it around. My Grandpa had four of these but he always ripped the 2F out and put a 383 and 465 behind it with cut-down 3/4 ton axles. After a morning working on it, I see why he did those swaps.

More to come if we don't sell it.

I know a 4BT would be great. I think an Isuzu 4BD1 would be more fitting, though. Honestly having a shop built and wanting a 2 post lift will kill project money.

Yea, just stick a small block V8 in it for now would be cheaper.

It's ours, but if someone offers the right money, we sell anything. It's a hard habit to break.

oh oh...... the 4BT turbo cummins, 3.73 gears, 5 speed nv3500 transmission, 4 speed atlas transfer case, electric or air lockers front and rear...... a good rhino or linex body coating, running biodiesel(to keep enviros happy).......... my neighbor has one in his yard, and if i can talk him out of it, theres my build plans.... but ive been trying for 2 years, and named up to 1500 for it........ but it has e lockers, and chromoly shafts in both front and rear axles already.... but its been sitting for 5 years, since he had his first little boy.....

Josh is In afganistan so i doubt he will be able to tell you if he has made any progress, but I don't know if he even has this FJ anymore, He was spending a whole lot of time working on his CHUM, he hasnt even finished that yet, he got orders and had to pack up all his chit and finish and sell his house in a little over a month

He's got limited internet access over there, they deem forums to be "games" and so they ban them on the interent, but hes still alive and well over there Very Happy
