- Volkswagen has no plans to bring a version of its upcoming Amarok midsize pickup truck to the U.S., according to Volkswagen of America's CEO Stefan Jacoby.
Jalopnik's Ray Wert asked Jacoby about the possibility of importing the Amarok during a meeting with journalists yesterday.
VW is trying to become the No. 1 auto manufacturer on the planet but Jacoby said the company doesn't think it should compete in the tough domestic truck market.
VW will build the Amarok at its manufacturing plant in Pacheco, Argentina, for sale in South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. The truck will be launched as a double-cab pickup with four-wheel drive. A regular cab version will follow later. Engines are expected to include both diesel and gasoline direct-injection. | |
