| you gotta step lightly what ever you do.. first find a cop that seems like a good guy and have him do a vin search. tell him why and all and see what your options are.. if the car is stolen then contact the dmv and see what your options are.. if the cars been on your property that long then you could apply for an abondond vehicle title perhaps.. | |

| Clerical errors happen all the time. Working in the car business I can tell you that for sure. Depending on which digit it is that is wrong, or how the VIN number does not match it could be a simple fix. I mean sme people see 5's and types S's, or visa versa, same with B's and 8's since they look so similar on the actual VIN plate. When you compare the title to the VIN plate on the car, where is the descrepency? Which didgit, and what is the title supposed to read? | |

| Is it possible that the dash had been replaced in the vehicle for some reason? See if you can also get the VIn number from the Door jam, the frame or the side of the motor block, or all three..lol... and see if at least all of the "car" matches itself. | |

| I don't think the priority is to protect yourself from loosing the vehicle and being left with nothing. I think the priority is protecting YOURSELF from being charged with car theft.
Right now, To to anybody who doesn't know any better, It looks like you stold the car 3 yrs ago and swapped the VIN with another possible scrap car. You should go to the police, before they come to you. Ask them What is your next step.

You should go to the police, before they come to you. Ask them What is your next step. ORYou could reconnect with the person you purchased the car from, find out if he had more then one Nissan Z he was selling and see if he simply signed over the wrong title. Because then you know there is a second owner of a Z car out there with the same issue you are having.... But no matter how you go about this, you are looking at a possible paperwork nightmare. My other suggestion would be to take the VIn number you have on the title, AND the VIN number you have on the car, and email BOTH of them to me, the complete VINs. I will run a history report on both at the dealership tomorrow and see if I can answer other questions about this from a different perspective before you... just another thought.
