We were discussing this week with a customer about common issues with Dodge trucks, and Chrysler Products. And I heard something I am not familiar with, maybe y'all can help?

Okay, the issue at hand is that Dodge trucks, Vans and Suv's, (specifically the 1997-2002 Dodge Durango if that helps) has a common problem that the PCM module overheats and forces the motor to shut down, and you are left on the side of the road for at least thirty minutes until it cools off before the motor will restart....

Is this true? working with these things, and selling them every month, I have never heard of this before. Has anyone else had this issue, or have known about it?

My father in law has a 01 durango. He's had it for about 3 years and he's never had that problem. So if it is a problem it must be a uncommon problem I have heard of alot of tranny issues though.

The five yrs I owned my Dakota (if this relates) I have never experienced any kind of unexpected shut downs. As Fasel stated.. I've had a couple of tranni issues w/mine and some miner electrical issues. (lights)

I've heard of PCMs overheating before, but that can happen to any motor. I wasnt aware it was a common problem with Chryslers.

I know in diagnosing the problem, the common thing to do is put an ice pack on the PCM and after a few minutes try to start the truck.

Well we had a customer refuse to buy a Durango becasue he had heard this was a very common issue. Right then, two Durangos were all we had for cheap 4wd SUV's, and we lost that sale because of it(see below). But since I have never heard of this being an "issue" with these vehicles, (and neither had our service department BTW) I figured I would put it out there and see if anyone else could confirm this guys story.

Now I did say "lost the sale", but I have since sold him a Nissan Pathfinder, so I can bypass some issues, it is just good to know theser things anyways,

As far as tranny issues go, I am pretty sure every american knows Dodge failed in that department during those years....LOL.... but it does not stop me from selling them! LAMO

well i just got off the phone with my buddies dad who worked for chysler his whole life and he has heard of a couple of them overeheating but that was under extreme conditions.. if you take notice to where they are you would understand why.. up against the firewall, between the wheelwell, and it has the heatercore lines right next to it and the exhuast manifold isnt to far away.. lol. i can see that being a problem in the lower states where the cooling system is put to the test.. lol
