| Ford is recalling 2,934 2010 Ford Ranger pickups with manual transmissions that were manufactured from June 8, 2009 through February 2, 2010 to fix a potential problem with the parking brake. The parking brake cable could become disconnected from the right rear actuator during cold weather when the brake is released if wet parking brake shoes have frozen in the applied position. If the brake cable disconnects, the pedal will have extended travel and may not fully apply the parking brake when the truck is in neutral, causing unintended movement that could lead to a crash. Ford has identified nine reports that appear to be the same or similar issue, all occurring during the winter months and on manual transmission equipped vehicles with no reports of accidents or injuries. Ford dealers will install a revised right rear parking brake actuator to prevent cable disconnection free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before May 19, 2010. Ranger owners with questions can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332. http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2010/05/recall-alert-2010-ford-ranger.html | |
