What are you guys doing to help your trucks cope with the cold? I put the winter front on it, use 5w-40 oil, and when the temperature gets REALLY low, plug in the block heater. Anything else you do differently?

We run 15W40 in the trucks year round. When it gets down around into the 20's we will plug them in. My diesel car doesn't have a block heater, just let the glowplugs run and it will start. Then let it sit and idle for 10 minutes. But that's the same with all the trucks, we will start them and let them sit and warm up for a few minutes before we drive them when its cold like this. We also put winter treatment in the fuel tanks to keep them from gelling up.

when we used to live in ohio, it got pretty cold with all the lake effect snow, but my dad always used 15w40 in his powerstroke excursion anhd plugged it in overnight, still started up a little rough but it ran better than it did when he didnt plug it in.

the only thing ive been doing with mine is plugging it in when i know im going to be driving it. It starts easier and i get heat sooner that way.
