***DOMAIN*** NEED OPINIONS

Finally, after months and months of trying, this stupid system finally allowed me to send some money in. NOW, we can re-register the domain.....

HOWEVER


they will not let me use MyTruckSource.com.... can be .ORG or .NET... but an ad company took the .com!

NOw we can start all over with a new one, or change the extension... IDEAS?

It doesn't matter to me as long as its iPhone freindly. I think my porn addiction finally killed my computers. Sucks we can't get our .com back thOugh. Perhaps start all over on a different format like we had planned awhile ago and move a lot of the useful banter over to it.

You mean finally switching over to the VBulliten style format?

The pricing structure and products for the switch have changed a lot since the last time we spoke about it. VBulletin now offers mobile for most any phone. The site, by itself, is now only 199 for the liscense, but to setup the forum along with setting up a mobile site is 379.00. Now this is not just the setup charge, this is an annual cost to keep the liscense. Then we need to rent server space. The best deal on server space is through GoDaddy.com and if I sign up for 36 months, we can get it at a monthly rate of 10.39 a month for the space to host the site. Also, since we are leaving this site behind, we will need to come up with, and re-register a brand new URL.... which is an annual charge of about 22 bucks.... it changes up or down depending on if we use a .com vs a .org, .net, .biz etc.

So here is the breakdown, for all members and those interested in this switch, to see.

Initial costs:

$379.00 to purchase the site
$22.00 +/- for the domain

Running costs:

10.39 per month for server

Annual costs are about the same as the initial costs

$379 to renew liscense
22.00 +/- to renew domain name


IN addition, if we do this, we will need to start from scratch, which means losing everything on this site. We will need to also create a new domain name (idea) since MyTruckSource.com has been taken away from us.

This site that we are using now is 100% free, other then the domain, IF we chose to use it.... so this is a big jump. Granted, the majority of us know the benefits of using the other program, especially for member traffic.... So I leave it up to the few that remain active here...

What do you want to do?

I'm easy too... Which ever way we go I'm OK with. I would like it to be iPhone friendly too.

4wdmods.com. 4x4mods.com. Really the URL shouldn't matter as long as when we set up the page the description is good. A lot of forums just use whatever for a URL and then the title is what it is about. Google truck forums and look at the URLs

I like truxtalk or talk trux I'm leaning more towards TruxTalk.com

I'm for the VBulletin But if it's gonna be a huge $$$ investment. I think we should stick with the same forumotion until we can get the forum population up again.

We may not show up on a google search for trucks if we use trux.

Could we use the new domain name Trucksource. Just drop the MY and go Trucksource.com ?

Good point, how about trucktalk.com? Or maybe truckaddicts.com? Is that one available? I also agree with keeping it on the freem format, at least until we can get goin again.

these are ALL TAKEN. If we use truck, or trucks, it almost has to be trux.... otherwise its taken. The other option is a .net, or .org or even the new .co but I think people will automatically ad an "M" and never come here....

OR, we can change the whole thing alltogether. Not have it center around trucks, but motor sports so to speak? Include ATV's, sleds or even boats? But I do not much personally about these topics.

But keep the ideas coming, I will continue to check and see what happens....

I think we're ALL truck guys at heart, but we all a have different interests beyond trucks.

Myself: I'm big time into RC helicopters, My grand kids and Setting up my new 2 car truck garage.
Our life styles change and our interest change. But for myself, I will ALWAYS enjoy trucks

i have a small scale R/c helicopter that i control with my iphone.. its pretty cool.. i can either control it by the normal slide controls or its motion/tilt operated.. it was on sale at best buy so i couldnt resist... lol

So we seem to all agree..
We need to come up with a CATCHY name for this forum that will draw in guys and gals that love trucks and that also enjoy other fun stuff like ATVs Boating Biking and smaller hobby stuff but still trucks prevail
